Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Ready to Race in Iowa

Indianapolis, IN - (June 18, 2009) After a much needed break, the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team has regrouped and is prepared for the seventh round of the IndyCar Series this weekend in Newton, Iowa. Piloting the DRR machines for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 will be Brit Mike Conway in the No. 24 Dad's Root Beer entry and, new addition to the team, South African Tomas Scheckter, who will be driving the No. 23 MonaVie car.
With two solid runs for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing under his belt, Scheckter is ready to re-visit Iowa. He will make his second appearance at the 0.875 mile oval. The South African competed for the first time in Iowa in 2007 where he started 14th and finished 19th.
Scheckter will compete with the team for eight additional races this season. The announcement was made in Texas that Scheckter and MonaVie would be joining DRR. To officially kick off the union, the new color scheme for the No.23 MonaVie machine will make its debut this weekend in Iowa.
Conway proved in Texas that he was enjoying the ovals. Unfortunately, the car had some mechanical trouble and the Englishman had to finish the race 37 laps down. The 26 year-old is ready to turn his luck around. This weekend will not only mark his first time to the Iowa circuit, but his first race with engineer Yves Touron, who engineered Oriol Servia's car last year for KV Racing Technology. Conway and Touron first worked together last week in Watkins Glen as all three DRR pilots, Conway, Duno and Scheckter, tested there for two days. It was an impressive run for Conway as he recorded a time 7/10ths off the pole time form last year's IndyCar event.
It will be a meaningful Father's Day weekend for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in Iowa. Not only will Dad's Root Beer be back on the No.24 car, but DRR will be paying tribute to the two father/son combinations on the team. They are Larry Curry, competition director, and his son Matt Curry, engineer on the No.23 MonaVie machine, and Wayne Selman, fueler on the No.24 Dad's Root Beer car, and his son Chase Selman, sponsorship services coordinator and right rear tire changer on the No. 24 machine.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track this weekend for the seventh round of the IndyCar Series in Newton, Iowa. The Iowa Corn Indy 250 will be live on ABC.
DREYER & REINBOLD QUOTES:
Mike Conway, No. 24 Dad's Root Beer:
"This will be my first time at Iowa. The practice sessions that we have will be crucial for me, so as much as I can learn from Tomas and what's going on around me will be important for qualifying and the race. The goal is to be strong in practice and keep up a good pace and learn as much as I can."
Tomas Scheckter, No.23 MonaVie:
"I'm looking forward to Iowa. I have now done a couple of races with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and we have improved a lot. We are also launching the new color scheme on the MonaVie car, which is pretty cool. Every day I spend here with the team, it just gets better. I'm excited to be going back to a track that I know and that is very challenging, it should be a good weekend."
Larry Curry, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Competition Director:
"The strategy for us going into Iowa, with Mike Conway being a rookie, is to make sure that he gets all the practice laps and gets to run every session to completion so that he gets as much experience on the .0875 oval in Iowa. We will press Tomas pretty hard since he is the veteran. His runs will be shorter in nature because we will be able to cut to the chase quicker with him as he already knows the circuit."
About Dreyer and Reinbold Racing
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing enters its 10th season of full-time competition in 2009, making it one of the longest-tenured teams in Indy Racing League competition. Current co-owners, Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl, first teamed in full-time competition at the Walt Disney World Speedway in January of 2000. With Buhl behind the wheel, the two owners tasted victory in their debut race. The 2009 IndyCar Series season-opener on the streets of St. Petersburg on April 3-5 will mark Dreyer & Reinbold Racing's 200th series start. In its history, the team has boasted a championship list of alumni drivers. Besides Buhl, the team has run Indianapolis 500 winners Al Unser Jr., Buddy Lazier, and Buddy Rice, along with IndyCar Series race winner Ryan Briscoe. The team has one of the longest lines of heritage in American open-wheel racing and the Indianapolis 500 as Dennis Reinbold's grandfather, "Pop" Dreyer, built leading roadsters that raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
