RACE NOTES/QUOTES---- Los Angeles, California, April 15,
- Servia started the race 23rd and finished 16th. Yesterday, he
clocked the 20th fastest time during yesterday's qualifying with a
time of 1:10.6835, making him the fastest of the Lotus cars. Friday
morning Lotus DRR had to change the engine for the No. 22 Motegi
Racing machine, and as a result, the team was penalized for making
an unapproved engine change and was penalized 10 grid positions for
- Servia pitted for the first time on Lap 11 going with an
alternate strategy to run on Firestone Firehawk alternate
(red-sidewall) tires as much as possible. Oriol came in and
switched from the Firestone Firehawk primary (black-sidewall)
tires. Unfortunately, there was an issue in the pits causing Servia
to go down two laps.
- From that point on, the strategy was a matter of trying to get
laps back, which consisted of coming in and topping off on fuel. On
Lap 22 the full course caution came out again and Oriol came in
again on Lap 23 to top off on fuel only. After the caution he
filtered out to P19. On Lap 27 Servia came in for a third time to
get a full fill of fuel and switch from the Firestone Firehawk
alternate (red-sidewall) tires to a fresh set of alternate tires.
On Lap 29, Oriol came in again under the yellow to top off on fuel
- Servia came in again for the final time on Lap 57 to get a full
fill of fuel and to switch to another set of fresh Firestone
Firehawk alternate (red-sidewall) tires. After the final stop he
filtered out to P18 and was good to go to the end.
- On the last lap Oriol passed Dario Franchitti for 15th
position, but there was a traffic jam in Turn 11, due to a car
spinning out, which resulted in the track being blocked by multiple
cars. Unfortunately, Servia had already passed the shortcut and was
unable to get through. He stalled the car and had to be re-started,
but the safety team was unable to start the car. Therefore he was
unable to cross the start/finish line, which resulted in Oriol
going another lap down, putting him a total of three laps down. The
No. 22 Motegi Racing crew had to push the car across the
start/finish line to attempt to save the 15th position and lap, but
did not succeed.
- This weekend marked Servia's 10th start at the Toyota Grand
Prix of Long Beach. Last year he started 4th and finished 6th.
After a late race collision, Servia, who was in contention for a
podium finish did a great job to avoid the pile up which resulted
in Oriol doing a 360-degree spin, got the car back in control and
finished the race in 6th position. He competed in CART/Champ Car
races at the track from 2000 to 2008. His previous best starts were
8th in 2003 and 2006 and his best finish was 2nd in 2007. Servia
has led 12 laps at the track.
- Motegi Racing was the primary livery on the No. 22 machine this
weekend. Through technical partnerships with leading
professional racing teams, Motegi Racing Competition and High
Performance Tuning wheels are designed and engineered for

(2,103 of 2,011)....Oriol was the only driver to finish in the top

competition, making them one of the longest tenured teams in the
- This weekend marked the team's 4th time to compete at the
Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
- In 2009 the team started 16th with Darren Manning and finished
19th and with Conway, started 16th and finished 21st. In 2010, the
team started 3rd with Justin Wilson and 16th with Mike Conway at
Long Beach and finished 2nd with Wilson and 10th with Conway in the
race. Last year Wilson started 5th and finished 22nd and Ana
Beatriz started 26th and finished 19th in the race.
Oriol Servia, No. 22 Lotus DRR, on the race in Long
"It wasn't the best Long Beach grand prix I've had in my life or
what we expected. From the start I felt that we didn't have the top
speed, but we knew that. It was tough out there and then we had a
little bit of bad luck in the pit stop. We lost a wheel nut and
that's what put us two laps down. Not the best day out there, but
I'm really happy with the team, they kept their heads down and in
the end that's what will give us the results."
Dennis Reinbold, Lotus DRR Co-Owner:
"Well we had a mistake on pit lane and it's hard to dig yourself
out of that. We worked all day today to get up to 16th. We worked
hard all day to get back into a better position, but I think that
we could have had a better finish today had everything gone
